Taylor A Dahlquist
1958—2023
Husband — Father — Grandpa
Brother — Friend
Dear family and friends,
Our beloved, kind, funny, loving husband and father passed away on October 19, 2023. His booming presence filled every room with energy and love, and we miss him dearly. His ever-sunny attitude was contagious and only occasionally aggravating. His ready smile was radiant and mischievous, and there was always a twinkle in his blue-grey eyes.
Taylor was born in Boise, Idaho, on February 16, 1958, to Afton (Ahlander) Dahlquist and Charles Winston Dahlquist (fondly known as Winn). He was the youngest of four siblings and graduated from Borah High School — Class of 1976. He died peacefully in his sleep at the age of 65 while on a business trip in San Diego.
Taylor met Judy in Boise. He proposed to her on Halloween 1984. They tied the knot on January 19, 1985, and moved into a beautiful home with a big backyard in Boise. He built a multi-level play structure for his two children. He dug a pond with a waterfall and filled it with water lilies and other aquatic plants. For many years, that pond was home to goldfish, bullfrogs, and turtles, and occasionally terrorized by herons. He planted trees, installed a sprawling sprinkler system, built a large deck, and completed many other DIY projects. He was a builder, a man of action, full of ideas and restless energy.
Taylor was a lover of the great outdoors. He often took his family camping in McCall, Idaho, and boating at Lucky Peak Reservoir. He also spent many years as the assistant coach of his sons’ soccer teams, and he was a lifelong supporter of the Boise State Broncos football team. But perhaps his favorite leisure activity was cooking breakfast for anyone and everyone who would let him — and boy were his banana pancakes delicious.
Taylor had a long and successful career starting in his high school days at Rathaus Pizza. He also worked as a salesman at Folger Equipment and Winn’s Tool Crib. He eventually took over the company from his father, Winn, and changed the name to Winn’s Industrial Supply. Taylor also worked at YMC Inc., H&E Equipment Services, and most recently Crafco Inc.
In 2013, Taylor and Judy moved to Gresham, Oregon, and lived there for five years before moving to Lincoln City, Oregon, fulfilling a lifelong dream of living on the Oregon Coast. He enjoyed fishing, taking walks on the beach, finding agates and shells, and creating driftwood art. He also ensured that the hummingbirds, deer, and stray cats in his neighborhood were well fed.
Taylor is survived by his wife of 38 years, Judy; his son, Andrew; his son Joseph and daughter-in-law Nevena Lazic, grandson Luka, and soon-to-be-born granddaughter due in December; his brother Charles (Zella); his sister Jeanene (Frank) Ellis; his brother Craig (Jan); and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Taylor was preceded in death by his mother and father Afton Ahlander and Charles Winston Dahlquist.
A celebration of life will be held in Spring 2024.
We thank you all for your support.
Love,
Judy, Joe & Andrew Dahlquist
